There is only one city in Canada larger than Montreal, fourteen cities in North America that are larger, and none in the province, Quebec, that is larger. This is a city that contains a massive population and does so with relatively low crime rates, high cleanliness, and impressive social cohesion. This city does not receive the international or national attention that it properly deserves considering both its size and the unique beauty contained therein.

Montreal provides unique opportunities, experiences, and events to those who live in, or visit, the city. There is enough common heritage in the city to create a public interest for the residents, but also a wide diversity amongst the residents. So much so in fact that one can walk down the street in Montreal and hear several languages spoken. A majority of the residents speak French at home, which makes Montreal the second largest French speaking city in the entire western world, behind Paris, but a sizable minority speaks English at home and another sizable chunk speaks some other language. This speaks to the city’s cultural heritage.

Montreal is culturally, commercially, and economically very important to the history and to the future of Canada. The city, founded in 1642, was only constituted in 2002, but this does not mean the city is not modern—it is.
